overview

Red spokes, black rims: wheels that is absolutely unmistakable in the middle of the peleton. Two powerful colors and exclusive technology stand out from the crowd and make these wheels unique in terms of performance and personality. Racing Zero wheels are at the top of the Fulcrum® range. The 2-Way Fit™ (Tubeless & Clincher) version is fitted without tubes, mostly to the advantage of safety and comfort but also in terms of performance.

This is an advantageous product which offers a double choice, allowing you to choose the benefits of tubeless or the practicality of clincher tires.

Thanks to Ultra-Fit™ Tubeless technology, the use of the tubeless tires drastically improves smoothness and reduces the risk of snake biting on rough roads. The release of air is also gradual in the event of puncturing: there is no risk of sudden deflation.

The rim is made using a special extrusion procedure which thins the walls. At the same time, the 26 millimeter thickness is a guarantee of strength. A rim of this type is excellent in terms of resistance and weight. Further lightening has been obtained by milling the material between the spoke anchoring points while the rim is perfectly balanced thanks to Dynamic Balance™ technology.

The spokes are made of aluminum with an aerodynamic profile. There are 16 in the front wheel, radially laced; 21 in the rear: 7 on the left and 14 on the right, in accordance with Two-to-One™ technology.

The hubs with carbon body and alloy axle are now equipped with USB™ ceramic bearings that increase smoothness, prolong service life, and further reduce the weight of the wheels.

Racing Zero 2-Way Fit™ wheels are compatible with Campagnolo®, Shimano Inc. and Sram Co. drive trains and are supplied with the new Fulcrum® quick releases.

As a bare wheelset the Zero is very light at 1,460g for the pair. Aluminium bladed spokes help keep weight down, and carbon-fibre-bodied hubs fitted with ceramic bearings reduce it further. With tyre and skewer the front weighs 1kg, the rear 1.25kg. A tough anodised freehub body keeps cassette damage at bay. Smooth ceramic bearings help the Zeros glide up to speed, and the lack of mass makes them well suited to climbing. The rims are solid with no flex or brake rub and, while that stiffness can show when running tyres at high pressure, you can run them at 10-15psi lower than recommended to add comfort without affecting grip or feel. The combination of a machined brake track and a very rigid rim meant that braking was brilliant across all our test bikes equipped with brakes from Shimano, Campagnolo and SRAM.

First off, hats off to Two Hubs. I ordered the Zero clinchers, but because they wouldn't be in for a week, they gave me the Zero two ways for the same price. Incredible deal! To the wheels. I had my doubts about the tubeless option simply because no one else I know had used them. If they're so great, why isn't anyone using them? That's a question i'll leave for the haters. These wheels are great. They are lightweight, bomber, and provide an incredible road feel that noticeably reduces road chatter. A downside is the goopy sealant in the event of a flat and the mess in throwing on a tube if you get a puncture that the sealant can't stop (had a one inch nail go through the top of the tire and through the side wall - no stopping that one). Also, there are a limited number of tire options at present for this system, though I have been pleased with the Hutchinson offerings thus far. In short, if you're debating between a clincher and a two way system, go with the two way - you'll be impressed.

By far the best all around wheelset I've had the pleasure of riding on the road. Absolute convert to Road Tubeless now and have been thoroughly impressed with how strong these wheels are considering how light they weigh. I'm a mountain biker and tend to hit or ride over all sorts of debris (and potholes), after a couple of thousand miles my set is still perfectly true. The USB ceramic bearings undoubtedly make a difference which I can certainly notice while in group rides when I'm soft pedaling (compared to other riders and their wheels). Thank you, Fulcrum!
